Welcome to the Compass Schools Portal (BETA!)

compass-color_smallIn Fall 2009, the AtKisson Group launched a new program to support schools in making the transition to practicing Education for Sustainable Development — in every dimension of school life, from classroom teaching to planning and administration.

The “Compass Schools” program uses the central metaphor of the Compass of Sustainability and its four “directions” — Nature, Economy, Society, and Well-Being — as a common, holistic definition for sustainability, and as a platform for cross-departmental collaboration, classroom teaching, and community outreach.

This new program is in “BETA”, which means we are still developing it. This web page will eventually be a much more extensive portal into a networking site, with Compass School resources and a membership area for the schools and organizations that are formally participating in this program.

The first Compass Schools “Train the Trainer” workshop took place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, at the Prem Internation Center (the world’s first Compass School) on 10-11 October 2009. Over twenty people have now been trained as Compass School Facilitators, working in schools and in the education sector throughout East Asia. Manuals have been created, adapting the ISIS Method and ISIS Accelerator tools to the world of education. And soon, we will open this program much more widely.

Our next training will again be in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on 6-7 Feburary 2010.  If you would like more information about the workshop, or to get involved in the Compass Schools program, please click here to send us an email. Tell us about yourself and/or your institution, and we will put one of our associates in touch with you as soon as possible.
