The common mission of the AtKisson Group is
to accelerate the process of sustainable development.
Since our inception, our work has been founded on systems and sustainability theory, mixed with best-practice methods of practical implementation and change; a sense of passion for our work; and a commitment to quality, creativity, and excellence in working with our clients and customers.
The AtKisson Group was founded as AtKisson + Associates, a sole proprietorship, in Seattle, USA, 1992. (We received our first business license in January 1993.) Alan AtKisson, the company’s founder, was also a co-founder of the internationally recognized Sustainable Seattle initiative. Sustainable Seattle was our first “client” – and Alan worked for several years leading Sustainable Seattle in a volunteer capacity. (Several other early AtKisson associates were also Sustainable Seattle volunteers, including Lee Hatcher.)
The business incorporated in 1995, and changed its name to AtKisson, Inc. in 2001 when it began to internationalize. AtKisson Europe, the first wholly owned subsidiary, was opened in Sweden in 2002.
Today, AtKisson Inc. is the hub company for an international network of affiliated organizations and individual associates, around the world, called the AtKisson Group. Members of the Group are fully authorized to use and promote the ISIS Method and the ISIS Accelerator suite of sustainability tools.
From the beginning, the company was a sought-after source of fresh ideas, well-tested experience, and best practices, for a wide variety of clients ranging from cities, to Fortune 500 corporations, to small non-profit groups. The Group's early projects were in support of the sustainability leaders of their time, and they built our competency in indicators and assessment, organizational development, initiative design, training, strategic planning, meeting facilitation, communication, and other critical skill areas.
Out of these projects we developed a set of proven tools and methods for advancing sustainability, and these have now been brought together into the ISIS Accelerator toolkit. Development of the Accelerator, and the beginning of our international certification and affiliate program in 2002, made possible the spread of our tools and methods to other professionals, as well as to other countries and cultures.
The 2002 founding of our European company, AtKisson Europe AB in Sweden, provided us with a model for international expansion and collaboration. Now, all AtKisson Group associates and affiliates operate under the same licensing terms and conditions ... and towards a common purpose, adapted to local needs and conditions.
The Group also continues to innovate, creating new processes, training programs, and methods in response to the needs of our clients, and in response to the world's current needs for making sustainability a practical reality.
The international breadth and depth of our network gives us considerable advantage in providing cutting edge, effective support to our clients – rapidly, and at reasonable cost.
